One Postdoctoral Research Associate Position at Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS) at Institute for Basic Science (IBS), Korea

10 May 2023

Postdoctoral Research Associate working on nuclear physics including but not limited to studies for the weak interaction: https://www.ibs.re.kr/prog/recruit/eng/sub04_01/view.do?pageIndex=1&searchCondition=&searchKeyword=&idx=1573

Job description:

CENS in IBS launches a new project "Studies for the weak interaction: precision frontier of nuclear and particle physics". The study aims to understand physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) from weak interaction. The successful candidate will characterize the coaxial HPGe detectors equipped in the institution to prepare a superallowed beta-decay branching ratio measurement at the new facility RAON and/or elsewhere. This position also provides an opportunity to join the experiments related to precision physics and structure of proton-/ neutron-rich nuclei at ISOLDE-CERN, JYFL in Finland, and INFN Legnaro in Italy. Travels to the facilities are foreseen in the near future. Furthermore, participating in other RAON physics programs is expected.

Postdoctoral researcher position at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg

05 May 2023

Postdoctoral researcher in experimental nuclear physics

The Department of Physics at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in experimental nuclear physics to begin in 2023 (starting date flexible), including the possibility for one additional year extension. This is a prime opportunity to gain experience at the forefront of nuclear research in an open and inclusive academic environment.

Organisationally, we are part of the division of Subatomic, High-Energy and Plasma Physics within the Department of Physics. We strive to provide a stimulating and open research environment with high scientific standards and a continuous exchange with our many international collaborators.

The position is opened within our longstanding successful programme aimed at studying the most exotic light nuclear systems through experiments using radioactive beams (RIBs). This is done through experiments at the GSI/FAIR and CERN-ISOLDE infrastructures, using the R3B and HIE-ISOLDE installations, respectively. The postdoctoral project will focus on actively taking part in upcoming experiments and take a leading role in implementing instrumentation.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a postdoctoral researcher is to carry out research aimed at a better understanding of nuclear systems at the limits of existence. This will include tasks related to developing and implementing methods and instrumentation needed. You are also expected to develop your own ideas and find your own ways of tackling research challenges. The position may include some supervision of bachelor, masters, and PhD students. It is expected that your research will be integrated within the international research collaborations where we are working and that you will assume a visible role within these. This entails a certain amount of international travel. You will communicate research results at collaboration meetings, international conferences as well as in scientific journals.

Qualifications
A PhD in Experimental Subatomic Physics, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. A strong educational background in physics, good programming skills and hands-on experience with radiation detectors are advantageous.

As we are active in a highly international environment, proficiency in written and spoken English is necessary.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for a maximum amount of three years.

We offer
Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. Chalmers aims to actively improve our gender balance. We work broadly with equality projects, for example the GENIE Initiative on gender equality for excellence. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.

Application deadline: 2023-06-25
For further information and application, follow link below. Chalmers only accepts applications through the web interface.
