Post-doc position at Pisa University

11 December 2023

Please spread the news of our post-doc position among young scientists who may be interested to challenge themselves in such a research topic.

The link to the text of the call, which has been published both in Italian and English, can be found on the webpage: https://bandi.unipi.it/public/Bandi/Detail/d8a1a70e-d3ff-4245-9dd9-a1f8ed8f00e5

The call will close on January 2nd 2024 at 1PM CET, and the interviews of the candidates will be taken on January 16th 2024, also remotely if needed. Note that also graduate students who have not yet a PhD degree may apply.

As you know, this position is framed in a 2-year project that the Nuclear Theory group at University of Pisa will carry out in the next two years in collaboration with the Nuclear Theory groups at the University "Luigi Vanvitelli" and at the University of Salento. The topic of the research project is the nuclear structure study of nuclear low-energy EFT Hamiltonians.

Postdoctoral Research Associate - SIGMA ENVISAGE Liverpool

30 November 2023

The Liverpool Nuclear Physics Group is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support its STFC-funded ENVISAGE programme, which aims to evaluate the performance of a Segmented Inverted coaxial GerManium (SIGMA) detector in operational environments.

You will play a leading role in evaluating the performance of the detector (1) as a tracking detector for decay spectroscopy experiments and (2) as a spectroscopic gamma-ray imager in nuclear decommissioning. Your role will include driving developments of experimental acquisition and analysis techniques. You will lead detector commissioning and data acquisition campaigns at laboratories in the University of Liverpool, the University of Jyväskylä (JYFL), Finland, and Mirion Technologies, Warrington. You will lead the analysis of the acquired data, for example (1) using the JYFL data to track gamma rays detected in SIGMA back to an implantation array to characterise and correlate isomeric decays and beta delayed gamma rays from the implanted exotic ions and (2) using the Mirion data to produce spectroscopic gamma-ray images of a range of industrially relevant gamma-ray sources.

You will be expected to present the results of your work at collaboration meetings and international conferences. A willingness to travel and the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders are essential. You will have opportunities to access a range of researcher development resources, with the University of Liverpool sector leading in postdoctoral researcher development programmes such as Prosper. The post is available until 31st October 2026 and is expected to start as soon as possible. Applications must be submitted by 8th December 2023. For any enquiries about the post please contact Prof Laura Harkness-Brennan ljh@liverpool.ac.uk.
