Two Post-doctoral positions in experimental nuclear physics -- University of York

11 December 2024

We are seeking to appoint two Post Doctoral Research Associates in Experimental Nuclear Physics to work in the groups of Prof Marina Petri and Dr Stefanos Paschalis. The PDRAs will work primarily on instrumentation developments of two state-of-the-art devices that will be deployed in studies of exotic nuclei at the frontier of nuclear structure research. The PDRAs will also support the experimental research programme within the group of exotic nuclei, addressing key questions on nucleon-nucleon correlations. The PDRAs are expected to undertake long-term visits at national labs and international facilities in the UK and abroad while being based at the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York.

Both PDRA posts are initially for a period of 18 months with the possibility of extension and are at Grade 6: £36,924 - £45,163 per year.

Full information can be found on HYPATIA and R3B TRT advertisements below.

Open positions at ILL Grenoble

02 December 2024

Institut Laue-Langevin (Grenoble) has opened two positions for nuclear physicists:

  1. A research scientist (gamma ray spectroscopy) acting as "co-responsible" of the FIPPS instrument, a high-efficiency HPGe array at a high-flux thermal neutron beam. This involves support of visiting scientists for their experiments, as well as own nuclear physics research and the supervision of PhD and master students. This position is for 5(+) years.

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Physics and Applied Physics – University of Massachusetts Lowell

25 November 2024

The Nuclear Physics group at the University of Massachusetts Lowell https://www.uml.edu/ has an immediate Postdoctoral opening to help exploit new opportunities in experimental research both at major national user facilities and at our on-campus Radiation Laboratory. The current research in the group is focused on fundamental nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics, as well as in detector R&D and applied nuclear science using emerging scintillators and segmented HPGe detectors. The Radiation Laboratory has a 1-MW research reactor and a 5.5-MV CN Van de Graaff accelerator. The university is situated in the historic city of Lowell, on the Merrimack River, a half-hour northwest of Boston.

We are looking for recent PhD graduates who want to take on challenging roles in our existing programs, but who will also be encouraged to pursue their own research interests. Minimum Qualifications (Required): • A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics or a closely related field is required • Experience with state-of-the-art nuclear detectors and techniques, as well as multi-parameter digital data acquisition and analysis of accelerator-based experiments, is desirable. • The successful candidate will be an integral member of the group and will be expected to help mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

The application process is fully online (Job No. 525686 at https://careers.pageuppeople.com/822/lowell/en-us/job/525686/postdoctoral-research-associate-experimental-nuclear-physics) Please include a cover letter and CV with names and contact information of three references. Initial review of applications will begin December 20, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. For more information about the opportunities, contact Professor Andrew Rogers (Andrew_Rogers@uml.edu).
