The University of Michigan will offer a NextProf Science workshop, May 4-May 7, 2020, aimed at encouraging talented scientists and mathematicians with a demonstrated commitment to diversity to consider academia as a career. Participants will develop strategies to prepare them to pursue academic careers. The workshop is targeted at scholars ready to take the next step—postdoctoral fellows and very advanced doctoral students. Underrepresented minorities and women are especially encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral Position at York University

We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher with experience of experimental nuclear physics for an STFC-supported detector-development programme on active-target technology for low-energy nuclear astrophysics measurements with radioactive beams. Expertise in the areas of active targets and/or gas detectors would be advantageous. The position is funded for 18 months. The appointed person will be based at York and will spend extended periods at the TRIUMF Laboratory, Vancouver, Canada.
The role will be to develop and characterise a state-of-the-art active target detector, based on Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs) technology or similar, to increase the sensitivity to low-energy reaction products. You will also characterise the electric field configuration and experience with GEANT4 would be desirable. As part of this role, you will work with colleagues at York and TRIUMF, on the pulse shape analysis algorithms for use in the data acquisition.

Postdoc position at the University of Mainz

The Supeheavy Element Physics group at the University of Mainz is looking to hire a post-doctoral researcher. The successful candidate will contribute in all activities of the group and will be expected to take a significant role in the experimental program on laser spectroscopy to be carried out at Mainz as well as at the SHIP recoil separator at GSI Darmstadt.
