The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams is searching for a Computational Physicist to develop a software package for tracking isotope beams and optimizing fragment separator performance. The Computational Physicist will play a critical role in improving the Advanced Rare Isotope Separator (ARIS) performance by providing a tool for offline and online optimization of the ARIS parameters.

As a Computational Physicist, your major position responsibilities will be the following: • Develop parallel tracking and optimization codes for isotope separation, and transport of rare isotope beams in 3D fields of multipole magnets, including misalignments o Conceive and execute studies of primary and secondary beam dynamics using existing software. o Development of novel simulation codes supporting realistic particle tracking in 3D fields of fragment separator magnets and interaction of isotope beams with wedges and degraders by integrating available codes such as LISE++-core or ATIMA. • Develop ARIS settings for efficient separation and purification of rare isotopes • Complete other duties as assigned within the scope of the role

The focus area of the project will be the investigation of the, so called, B4/2 "anomaly" found in the neutron-deficient W-Os-Pt region through the measurement of the lifetimes of the lowest excited states in the odd 165,167Os neutron-deficient isotopes. Scientist - Nuclear Reaction Modeling & Evaluation - at Brookhaven National Laboratory

The National Nuclear Data Center has two opportunities for scientists in nuclear reaction evaluations and research. In this role you will be expected to work on all aspects of the Evaluated Nuclear Data File (ENDF) and/or the EXFOR (EXchange FORmat) library. ENDF is the most widely used low energy reaction database in nuclear applications, needed in reactor modeling and licensing, safeguards, shielding, space radiation effects, etc. EXFOR is the premier database of experimental nuclear reaction data and provides the experimental grounding for the ENDF evaluations. This work includes the compilation and evaluation of nuclear reaction and decay data, as well as experimental or theoretical research aligned with ENDF priorities. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community and takes place in a collaborative and collegial team environment. "The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham seeks to appoint an Associate Professor with strong expertise and a demonstrated scientific track record in nuclear science, to coordinate and lead the science programme of its new High Flux Accelerator-Driven Neutron Facility. The successful applicant is also expected to make use of the new Facility, and potentially also the School's MC40 Cyclotron facility, for their own research.

Based in the School of Physics and Astronomy, the High Flux Accelerator-Driven Neutron Facility is a new national facility that will support the study of neutron interactions in materials for the nuclear sector, ranging from fission to fusion, and is part of Birmingham initiatives in the Energy sector led by the Birmingham Energy Institute.

The Facility also offers a broader programme relating to the understanding of neutron interactions with materials, with applications extending to nuclear medicine (including a programme of radiobiology research), the space sector, and fundamental physics. The successful applicant will engage with external users of the Facility to develop new research programmes; support and develop new internal, University of Birmingham research programmes linked to the Facility; have their own strong programme of research using the Facility; collaborate effectively with the existing Facility team and nuclear research programme; and, as part of the Facility management team, represent the Facility within the University of Birmingham and externally at national and international meetings.

The successful applicant will sit within the Nuclear Physics Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy, as part of a dynamic team utilizing the unique combination of nuclear facilities based in the School. They will have the necessary background and expertise to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes in the School, in particular in nuclear technologies and nuclear physics."
