The Low Energy Nuclear Physics Group at the Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory
has an opening for a post-doctoral research fellow in Experimental Nuclear Physics and Nuclear
Data. We are seeking an enthusiastic and well qualified candidate who can take a leading role in
an experimental program that utilizes the unique capabilities of Gammasphere spectrometer for
discrete and calorimetric gamma-ray studies following beta decay of neutron-rich nuclei
produced at the CARIBU facility. Experience in gamma-ray spectroscopy and GEANT simulations
is desirable. The initial appointment will be for two years, with possibility for additional one year
renewal contingent upon mutual agreement. Review of applications will begin immediately and
will continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vita with
a list of publications and the names of three contact references to Dr. M.P. Carpenter
(carpenter@anl.gov) and Dr. F.G. Kondev (kondev@anl.gov), Physics Division, Argonne National
Laboratory.
Nuclear theory postdoc opportunity at the University of North Carolina
03 November 2017
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) invites applications for a
two-year postdoctoral fellowship in nuclear theory (with Prof. Jonathan Engel),
to begin around September 1, 2018. Candidates should have experience in
nuclear-structure theory (or other kinds of many-body theory), nuclear
astrophysics, or fundamental symmetries in nuclei. It is anticipated that
research will focus on double-beta decay, r-process nucleosynthesis,
time-reversal noninvariance and atomic electric dipole moments, and nuclear
structure, including both ab initio methods and density functional theory.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests,
and the names of three people who can write letters of recommendation to the UNC
website at https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/129835 by January 1, 2018.
Evaluation of applications will begin shortly thereafter.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and
affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration
for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender
expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race,
religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
Postdoctoral Associate in Theoretical Nuclear Physics at University of Minnesota
30 October 2017
The Nuclear Theory Group at the University of Minnesota expects to have a Postdoctoral Associate position available beginning in fall of 2018. The permanent group members are Joseph Kapusta and Yong Qian. The postdoctoral associate will carry out original research on one or more of the following topics: heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC, AdS/QCD, finite temperature field theory, neutron stars, neutrino astrophysics, supernova explosions and gammaray bursts, evolution and nucleosynthesis of massive stars, and chemical evolution of galaxies. Successful applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or related fields by beginning date of appointment. Appointments are made for one year and normally are renewable for a second, subject to funding and performance.
Applications must be submitted online. To be considered for this position, please click the Apply button and follow the instructions at https://z.umn.edu/Postdoc_TheoreticalNuclearPhysics. You will be given the opportunity to complete an online application for the position and attach a cover letter, resume and a list of references. In addition, three letters of recommendation should be sent by email to qianx007@umn.edu by December 1, 2017. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
The University of Minnesota provides equal access to and opportunity in its programs, facilities, and employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Postdoctoral position in Nuclear Science at Indiana University, Bloomington
25 October 2017
Postdoctoral position within the Nuclear Structure Group at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (INFN)
25 October 2017
The Nuclear Physics Groups of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (LNL) and of the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania, of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), offer a postdoctoral position on the topic:
Transfer reaction with a helicoidal spectrometer at SPES
The main research area of the group is in nuclear structure physics with gamma-ray spectroscopy methods. The research activity focuses on reaction studies of atomic nuclei under extreme conditions using the most advanced gamma-ray spectroscopy methods and associated equipment. Major projects where the group is involved are the Advanced Gamma-ray Tracking Array (AGATA), GALILEO, TRACE and NEDA.
Within this project, the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the design of a new spectrometer for transfer reactions using radioactive ion beams provided by the SPES facility. Experiments and tests are foreseen at LNL, CERN-Isolde and LNS.
The fellow is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics or equivalent qualification. Applicants will be called for an interview and, if positively assessed, the postdoctoral position will be granted initially for one year that might be extended to a second year.
The deadline for sending the documentation to LNL is the 5th of November 2017.
