The Nuclear Physics Groups of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (LNL) and of the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania, of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), offer a postdoctoral position on the topic:
Transfer reaction with a helicoidal spectrometer at SPES
The main research area of the group is in nuclear structure physics with gamma-ray spectroscopy methods. The research activity focuses on reaction studies of atomic nuclei under extreme conditions using the most advanced gamma-ray spectroscopy methods and associated equipment. Major projects where the group is involved are the Advanced Gamma-ray Tracking Array (AGATA), GALILEO, TRACE and NEDA.
Within this project, the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the design of a new spectrometer for transfer reactions using radioactive ion beams provided by the SPES facility. Experiments and tests are foreseen at LNL, CERN-Isolde and LNS.
The fellow is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics or equivalent qualification. Applicants will be called for an interview and, if positively assessed, the postdoctoral position will be granted initially for one year that might be extended to a second year.

Faculty Position in Theoretical Nuclear Physics at the University of Minnesota

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Theoretical Nuclear Physics. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, or other related fields and should have demonstrated the potential to conduct a vigorous and significant research program as evidenced by their publication record and supporting letters from recognized leaders in the field. The ability to teach physics effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels is required.
The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level, although a more senior appointment will be considered for a candidate with exceptional qualifications.
The University of Minnesota has a strong and well-supported theoretical nuclear physics group pursuing topics that include heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC, AdS/QCD, finite temperature field theory, neutron stars, neutrino astrophysics, supernova explosions and gamma-ray bursts, evolution and nucleosynthesis of massive stars, and chemical evolution of galaxies. The group also has significant overlap in interests with members of the Fine Theoretical Physics Institute and the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. Applications are encouraged from researchers working on the above or any other topics in theoretical nuclear physics.
The expected starting date for this position is August 27, 2018, although an earlier or later start can be arranged.

PhD School "Frontiers in Nuclear and Hadronic Physics

It is now possible to register for the PhD School “Frontiers in Nuclear and Hadronic Physics” which will take place at the Galileo Galilei Institute for Theoretical Physics in Florence from Feb, 26 2018 to Mar, 09 2018; Deadline for applications: Dec, 15 2017.
The school is primarily addressed to Ph.D. students in theoretical nuclear physics, but the participation of experimentalists and post-docs is also encouraged.
Let us stress the fact that there is no registration fee and that local support can be provided in a limited number of cases.
The school is characterized by rather long and pedagogical courses (6-10 hours), mostly using the blackboard.
