3 senior researcher and 4 postdoctoral research associate positions at the Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS), South Korea

10 July 2023

Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS, https://www.ibs.re.kr/cens/) at Institute for Basic Science (IBS), South Korea, is seeking creative, dynamic candidates who can join and help the Center grow by leading experiments and theoretical studies on exotic nuclei, data analysis, and development of detectors. Three senior researcher and four postdoctoral research associate positions are open at this time.

The successful candidate will work in the center at the main campus of IBS in Daejeon, South Korea. Founded in December 2019, the IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS) carries out experiments on nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and nuclear reaction using rare isotope accelerators overseas. CENS also has a theory group to carry out independent research and support its experimental efforts. In the near future, the Center will also conduct research that can best utilize a rare isotope accelerator complex in South Korea, named Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON line experiments (RAON). Furthermore, CENS is working to develop state-of-the-art detectors for research on structures and reactions of exotic nuclei, measurement of nuclear reactions in explosive stellar events, discovery of new rare isotopes, and exotic nuclear physics experiments.

Postdoctoral Position at Argonne National Laboratory

10 July 2023

Please see the attached advertisement for a postdoc position at Argonne National Laboratory.

The Low Energy Nuclear Physics Group at the Physics Division is now inviting interested applicants to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position to conduct research in the field of Experimental Nuclear Astrophysics at the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS). The ATLAS accelerator facility is a DOE supported national user facility for low-energy nuclear physics research.

The successful candidate will work in the research group of Dr. Melina Avila on measurements of (alpha,n) reactions using the Multi-Sampling Ionization Chamber (MUSIC) detector. In addition, the successful candidate will play an important role in the development of a new Time Projection Chamber (TPC) for alpha-induced experiments at ATLAS and FRIB. The candidate is expected to take a leading role planning future experiments and performing data analysis

Postdoctoral Position at ATLAS, at Argonne National Laboratory

10 July 2023

The ATLAS user facility https://www.anl.gov/atlas, located in the Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory https://www.anl.gov/ (Lemont, Illinois, USA), is now seeking a qualified candidate for a postdoctoral position planned to start around September-October 2023. The duration of the position is two years with the possibility of one additional year contingent upon funding and performance. The successful candidate will be primarily working with physicists and computer scientists in the development of an automated machine-learning (ML) based system, called CARIBU-matic, designed to optimize the transport of radioactive heavy-ion beams produced by the Californium Rare-Isotope Breeder Upgrade (CARIBU) source. Additionally, this position coincides with the commissioning of a significant upgrade to the CARIBU source, which will enable a dynamic and high-impact experimental program. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in other areas of the rich low-energy nuclear research program at the ATLAS facility, write scientific papers, and give presentations at conferences.

To apply, complete the online application at the Argonne careers website https://argonne.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/ArgonneCareers/job/Lemont-IL-USA/Postdoctoral-Appointee---CARIBU416121 for requisition #416121. Make sure you upload your CV and a cover letter (indicating why you want to apply to this position) in the "Attachments" section of the online form.
