Your responsibilities
You will become a member of the interdisciplinary target and ion source (SY-STI-RBS) section within CERNs Accelerator Systems Department, bridging across scientific fields such as nuclear physics, atomic physics, ion source and accelerator physics and engineering, ion beam trapping and manipulation, material science, and chemistry. We are looking for an Applied Physicist to to lead ion beam manipulation and trapping techniques for the production and delivery of radioactive ion beams (RIB) produced at CERN-ISOLDE. ISOLDE is a facility dedicated to the production of radioactive ion beams for physics research using the isotope separation on-line (ISOL) method.
In this position, you will:
Lead the development of projects including beam delivery from multiple ion sources to experimental end-stations;</br>
Drive development of ion beam transport, manipulation and detection techniques including buffer-gas cooling and bunching, magnetic and time-of-flight mass-separation;</br>
Take part in the operation of beam delivery systems at ISOLDE;</br>
Complement the group's effort of expanding offline infrastructure for beam development and testing.</br>
Skills and/or knowledge
Experience with ion beam optics, transport and manipulation;</br>
Experience with mass-separator and ion trap systems;</br>
Experience with ion detection and identification techniques. </br>
Advantageous:
Experience with project management and technical coordination would be an advantage.
Language skills:
Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.</br>
You have a professional background in Applied Sciences (or a related field) and have either:</br>
a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;</br>
or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.</br>
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.</br>

The Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS) in the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is inviting applications for a three-year postdoc position in experimental nuclear physics. Founded in December 2019, the IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies (CENS) carries out experiments on nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and nuclear reaction using rare isotope accelerators overseas. CENS also has a theory group to carry out independent research and support its experimental efforts. In the near future, the Center will also conduct research that can best utilize a rare isotope accelerator complex in Korea, named Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON line experiments (RAON). Furthermore, CENS is working to develop state-of-the-art detectors for research on structures and reactions of exotic nuclei, measurement of nuclear reactions in explosive stellar events, discovery of new rare isotopes, and exotic nuclear physics experiments.
CENS in IBS launched a project "Studies for the weak interaction: precision frontier of nuclear and particle physics" last year. The study aims to understand physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) from weak interaction. The successful candidate will characterize the coaxial HPGe detectors equipped in the institution to prepare a superallowed beta-decay branching ratio measurement at the new facility RAON and/or elsewhere. This position also provides an opportunity to join the experiments related to precision physics and structure of proton-/ neutron-rich nuclei at ISOLDE-CERN and INFN Legnaro in Italy. Travels to the facilities are foreseen in the near future. Furthermore, participating in other RAON physics programs is expected.

The Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics (CENPA) at the University of Washington, Seattle has a rare opportunity for a full-time (100% FTE, 12-month service term) research faculty member who, depending on qualifications, may be hired at the rank of Assistant Research Professor, Associate Research Professor, or Research Professor.
