The Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking applications to fill a faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Professor level in 2024. This initiative is part of an approved cluster hire to bolster UTK's strength in the development and use of radioisotopes in all related fields, such as but not limited to, radiochemistry, isotope production, and chemical modification of isotopes. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research success in one or more of these areas with the vision to develop collaborative research activities, and are committed to high-quality undergraduate and graduate student education.
The radioisotopes cluster hire aligns well with the current initiatives at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII). At ORNL, $158M has recently been appropriated to construct a Stable Isotope Production and Research Center as well as a Radioisotope Processing Facility to expand domestic production of critical isotopes vital to the mission of many federal agencies, such as NIH, NASA, DoD, ODNI, NIST, DHS, NNSA, NSF, and others. The selected candidate(s) will choose which TCE department they will join and partake in filling the remaining position(s). The long-term plan for hires within this cluster include 1) development of new radiochemistry labs, 2) development of enhanced radioisotope curriculum and establishment of a summer school in collaboration with partners at ORNL and UT-ORII, 3) expand partnerships with local hospitals, veterinary centers, and/or businesses with interests in isotope use and research, and 4) establishment of transformational campus-based research center(s).
Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate degree in a related field and relevant experience to be hired at the Assistant, Associate, or Full level. Applicants must be able to contribute to existing courses in the chosen TCE department, advise/train graduate students in the production and/or use of radioisotopes, provide service to the university and community, contribute to current research activities in radioisotopes, and develop new avenues of research and teaching.
Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a demonstrated potential to succeed as a junior faculty at a state flagship campus.
Candidates for Associate Professor should have a demonstrated record of publishing in appropriate journals, securing and executing externally funded research, and internal and external service to their professional community
Candidates for Full Professor should have a demonstrated record of publishing in appropriate journals, securing and executing externally funded research, and internal and external service to their professional community. In addition, the candidate should have national/international recognition in their field of study.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications include previous experience in graduate student advising, course instruction/development, and establishing and/or managing an isotope production facility or research center.

Post-doc position at Pisa University

This message announces the opening by the end of the year of one post-doc position in Nuclear Theory, that should start at the beginning of 2024 – not later than next February 2024 - at the Department of Physics of the University of Pisa (Italy). The duration of the fellowship is 24 months, and the monthly net salary amounts to about 1.8 kEuro.
The Nuclear Theory group in Pisa has a world-wide recognized experience in ab-initio methods and nuclear reactions also of astrophysical interest. Furthermore, the group is systematically invited to be part of experimental collaborations (among which LUNA and PTOLEMY at the Gran Sasso National Labs, ALICE at LHC, Hall A at Jefferson Lab), in order to provide their theoretical predictions both in the preparatory phase of the experiment and in the final comparison with experimental data.
The post-doc position of this announcement is framed in a 2-year project called "Exploiting separation of scales in nuclear structure and dynamics", which will be carried out in collaboration with the Nuclear Theory groups at the University "Luigi Vanvitelli"of Caserta and the University of Salento. The project will be devoted to the study of nuclear Hamiltonians constructed by way of low-energy effective field theory(LEEFT), in which the effective degrees of freedom can be either nucleons (pions are integrated out) and/or clusters, typically alpha particles, and to the application of these Hamiltonian to nuclear structure and dynamics. In particular, the Pisa unit is going to investigate the subleading three-nucleon interaction, fitting the low-energy constants to A=3 scattering observables, and to derive consistent electro-weak transition operators. This will allow then to address few-nucleon reactions of astrophysical interest, or relevant for energy production through nuclear fusion, the search of new physics (dark-matter, exotic nuclear states and phenomena, etc.), the study of hypernuclei.

Postdoctoral Position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS), working at JLab

The Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS), to work on the CLAS12 experiment at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Newport News, Virginia. The MIT-CLAS12 group, led by Professor Richard Milner, is currently focused on measurement of deeply virtual exclusive processes, and development of a polarized He-3 target for use in CLAS12. The position will offer further opportunities to participate in any part of the group activities.
